Sharon B's challenge for week 26 is Palestrina stitch. This stitch is often used in Italien embroideries therefore the name. Palestrina is a small town east of Rome in the province of Latium. Again this stitch was new for me. As soon as I got to know how to make the stitch I immediately liked it because it gives structure to your embroidery. I had lot of fun exploring several possibilities of Palestrina stitch:
Für diese Übung habe ich Perlgarn der Stärken 3, 5 und 8 verwendet und ein dickes Strukturgarn mit Goldfaden. Ich habe auf einem Stück alten Leinen gestickt. Ich liebe altes Leinen, da es fest ist und durch jahrelange Benutzung und oftmaliges Waschen gleichzeitig auch weich ist. Glücklicherweise werde ich von diversen Familienmitgliedern und Freunden immer wieder mit alten Leinentischtüchern oder Resten alter, oft schon gerissener und unbrauchbarer Leinenstickereien bedacht. Diese Dinge sind für mich wahre Schätze, werden oft lange, lange "eingelagert" und dann plötzlich finden sie in einem Quilt oder wie jetzt immer häufiger in einer meiner Stickereien Verwendung.
I used perle # 3, 5 and 8 cotton and a thick structure yarn including gold thread for this exercise. I stitched on an old piece of linen. I love stitching on old linen, it is strong and at the same time soft by using and washing it through years.I'm lucky for members of my family and friends of mine sometimes give me old tablecoths or pieces of embroidery on linen often destroyed by time. These things mean real treasures to me, they are stored in my stash sometimes for years. But suddenly they find their way in a quilt or more and more often in one of my embroideries I love to make now.
