Bisweilen fordert einem das Leben so einiges ab und es bleibt einfach kaum Freizeit übrig. Kaum Zeit zum Nähen und Sticken, kaum Zeit für die Blogwelt, was mir natürlich sehr leid tut.
Einen Quilt und eine Tasche habe ich dennoch fertig genäht und beide möchte ich euch zeigen:


Sometimes "life" is so demanding and there is no time left for sewing, stitching and looking at blogs. I feel so sorry about that!
Nevertheless I could finish one quilt and one bag and both I would like to show you:







Der Quilt - bis dato noch namenlos -  ist eine Kuscheldecke für meine Tochter Elisabeth. Ich habe ihn nach dem Design von Vicki Stratton genäht. Gequiltet habe ich ihn so wie es mir Spaß machte, für jede Farbe habe ich ein anderes Quiltmuster verwendet

This until now nameless quilt belongs to my daughter Elisabeth. The quilt has been designed by Vicki Stratton and I followed completely her instructions. I had fun quilting according to my own ideas and used different quilt patterns for every colour.

Diese praktische, geräumige und gut belastbare Tasche habe ich nach einem Gratismuster von Rowan genäht. Sie hat vier Henkel, man kann sie kurz tragen oder auch um die Schultern hängen. Ich habe einen einfärbigen schwarzen Stoff von Moda und einen Sarong, den ich vor einiger Zeit auf der wunderschönen Insel Bali erstanden habe, verwendet:

I have sewn this practical, large and sturdy bag following the instructions of a free pattern from Rowan. The bag has four straps for carrying shortly and carrying around your shouders. I used black fabric from Moda and a sarong bought sometimes ago on the wonderful island of Bali.





 Ich hoffe sehr, dass ich in nächster Zukunft wieder mehr Zeit für mich und damit auch für die Blogwelt haben werde!

Nicht ich, sondern meine Mam ist es, die häkelt!
Das Materilal  stammt aus einer längst vergangenen Zeit, wo ich alle möglichen Techniken ausprobierte, nämlich aus meiner "Topflappenzeit". Die Anleitung zu den "grannies" habe ich hier gefunden, das Taschenmuster hier. Übrigends ist Evis Blog eine wahre Funlgrube für Informationen über Wien. Ihr findet hier Tipps für Veranstanltungen, auch aus dem Handarbeitsbereich, nette Kaffeehäuser und vieles mehr. Sie macht zwar gerade "Inventur", trotzdem schaut doch mal bei Evi vorbei.

 Hier ist sie - meine Mam und "unsere" Häkeltasche, die Herzenswunsch meiner älteren Tochter Elisabeth ist:



 It is not me but my Mum who does crotcheting! The cotton wool dates from days very long ago, days I could call my "potholder time". I found the pattern for the "grannies" here, the pattern for the bag here. Evi's blog is a usefull source for information about Vienna, you can find lots of tips for events on handicraft, cafès and much more. Although she has stopped blogging at the moment her website is worth visiting.

But now here she is-my Mum and the bag, a wish from my elder daughter Elizabeth::










 Meine Mam hat hart damit gekämpft, aus den unterschiedlichen Baumwollqualitäten gleich große "grannies" zu zaubern. Doch es ist ihr gelungen und Spaß hat's auch gemacht, denn wäre sonst nicht auch noch das kleine Täschchen entstanden?
 Auf meinen Stoffjagden durch Port Louis habe ich nun endlich auch ein kleines Geschäft entdeckt, wo es auch Baumwollstoffe gibt. Rund um den Gemüsemarkt gibt es unzählige Stoffgeschäfte, die meisten verkaufen Kunststoffe, auch Seide, Baumwollstoffe sind jedoch rar. Doch ich wurde fündig und glaubt mir, die Auswahl fiel letztlich gar nicht so leicht. Bezahlt habe ich für den Meter um die 2,5 Euro.

My Mum struggled very hard with the different kinds of qualities of the cotton wool but she succsessfully got all grannies same size at least. She had fun otherwise she would not have continued making a little pourse! Hunting for cotton fabrics in the streets of Port Louis was not an easy task. Around the vegetable market there are lots of shops offeríng synthetic, also silk, cotton is rare. But at least I found a shop and finally it was hard to make up  my decision. I paid around 2.50 euro per meter:

TAST 2013 Stich 61 und CQJP Block 4 / TAST 2013 Stitch# 61 and CQJP block#4

Sharon B gab für diese Woche den Up and down feathered buttonhole stitch als Aufgabe. Diesen Stich mochte ich gleich von Anfang an sehr. Schnell findet man den Rhythmus und Säume in Crazy Blöcken lassen sich schön mit Rankenmotiven besticken. Zunächst mein Eintrag in meine "Stichbibel":


 Sharon B  suggested Up and down featrhered buttonhole stitch for this week. From the beginning I liked this stitch. Easy to find the rhythm and very useful for flower sprays and seams in crazy blocks. At first my exercise in my "Stitch Bible"


 


 In einem meiner Crazy Blöcke habe ich zwei Reihen des Stiches übereinander gelagert:

 In einem anderen Block habe ich Reihen dieses Stiches wieder übereinander gestickt. Weiters habe ich hier den Pistil stitch und French knots verwendet und dann den Saum mit winzigen und etwas größeren Perlen verziert:

 In anorher block I also stitched layers of rows of Up and down feathered buttonhole stitch. Further I used Pistil stitch and French knots. Then I decorated with tiny little beads and a few bigger ones:

In einigen Wochen werden meine Freundin Hanna und ich nach Berlin fliegen und unsere Freundinnen Martina und Cordula treffen. Anlass sind die Quilttage der Deutschen Patchworkgilde, die sich am 8.und 9.Juni den Veranstaltungsort mit Art Berlin teilen. Die Zeit verfliegt ja nur so und ich freue mich schon sehr und denke viel an die kommenden schönen Tage, was mich in die Stimmung gebracht hat, meinen Aprilblock für das CQJP der Stadt Berlin zu widmen. Berlin ist ja eingebettet in eine wunderschöne Umgebung. Das wollte ich durch meine Blumenranken zeigen:


 In a few weeks my friend Hanna and I will fly to Berlin to meet our friends Martina and Codula. Reason for our visit to Berlin is the annual exhibition of the German Patchwork Guild. On 8th and 9th of June at the first time this exhibition shares time and place with the Art Berlin. I'm really looking forward to these few upcoming days. Time ist passing so quickly and I often think about Berlin, so I came in the mood to dedicate my block#4 for the CQJP 2013 to the German capital, which is situated in a wonderful landescape. That is what I had in mind when I stitched all the flowers and flowersprays on my block:


 

TAST 2013 Stiche 59 und 60 und Sugar Block Nr.4/ TAST 2013 Stitches 59 and 60 and Sugar Block#4

Sharon B kündigte als 59. Stich den Breton Stich an. Dieser Stich gehört zur Familie der Herringbone Stiche. Mary Thomas erwähnt ih ihrem Buch "Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches", dass der Stich charakteristisch in der bretagnischen Stickerei ist und die für die Möbel dieser Region typischen Spindelformen nachahmt. Außerdem wurde der Stich nur mit dunkelblauem Faden auf weißem Untergrund oder umgekehrt mit weißem Faden auf blauem Stoff gestickt. So blieb ich bei meiner kleinen Übung ebenfalls monochromatisch und verwendete ausschließlich die Farbe Dunkelblau:

Stitch#59 announced by Sharon B is called Breton Stitch, which belongs to the Herringbone stitch family. In her book "Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches" Mary Thomas mentiones that the stitch is characteristic for the embroidery of Brittany, echoes the shape of spindels found in Breton furniture and is used only in blue and white: dark blue thread on white or white thread on blue. So I decided to keep monochromatic and used dark blue thread for my little exercise:




 Der 60.Stich heißt Diamond Stitch, ein Stich, mit dem sich schöne Muster entwickeln lassen:

 Stich #60 is called Diamond stitch. One can develop beautiful patterns with this stitch:





Hier habe ich den für mich neuen Diamond stitch in einem Crazy Block verwendet und habe ihn mit dem Fly stitch, dem Straight stitch, dem Bullion und French knot stitch und einigen Perlen kombiniert:

 Ich habe auch wieder Zeit gefunden, mit einigen der alten TAST Stiche von 2012 meine "Stickbibel" zu erweitern. Hier der French knot stitch.

 Hier in der südlichen Hemisphäre ist zwar der Winter eingekehrt, was aber bloß bedeutet, dass es etwas kühler ist, was in der Nacht sehr angenehm ist. Trotz Sonnenscheins konnte ich dann doch nicht wiederstehen, mich an meine alte Pfaff zu setzen und den 4. Block für den Sugar Block Club zu nähen - einfach weil ich ihn so schön fand:

  In the southern hemisphere we have winter has begun - means it is a little bit cooler, nights are very pleasant now. In spite of the sunny weather I could not resist to sit down at my old Paff and sew block#4 for the Sugar Block Club - simply because I found the block so beautifu:

Design Challenge und Österreichisch-Ungarischer RR/ Design Challenge and Austrian-Hungarian-RR

Vor einigen Wochen hat Sharon B einen Design Challenge angekündigt. Sie gab 8 Stiche zur Auswahl: Herringbone square, laced square Herringbone, back stitch, straight stitch, chain stitch, detached chain stitch und French knot. Die Stickerei soll dann auf vier Stiche beschränkt sein. Ich entschied mich für back stitch, French knot, detached chain stitch und den kürzlich erlernten laced square Herringbone Stich:

 A couple of weeks ago Sharon B announced a design challenge. Sharon proposed Herringbone square, laced square Herringbone, back stitch, straight stitch, chain stitch, detached chain stitch and French knot. One had to choose 4 stitches and I decided for back stitch, French knot, detached chain stitch and the recently learnt laced square Herringbone stitch:




 Im Vordergrund habe ich Schichten von detached herringbone Stichen gearbeitet. Es gefällt mir, wenn sich die Stickerei reliefartig wölbt:

I stitched layers and layers of detached Herringbone stitches in the foreground. I like the relief-like effect of the stitchery coming out from the ground:




 Endlich habe ich nun wieder einmal Zeit gefunden, einen Stich von TAST 2012 in meine "Sickbibel" einzufügen. Die kleine Übung mit dem stem stitch hat mir wie auch Sharons Design Arbeit viel Spaß gemacht:


 Finally I found time for adding another stitch from TAST 2012 into my "Stitch Bible". I had lots of fun with this little exercise using stem stich and of course I also enjoyed Sharon's design challenge:


 


 Zum Schluß möchte ich auch noch meinen Beitrag zum Österreichisch-ungarischen Round Robin zeigen. Leider habe ich zurzeit den Namen meiner ungarischen Partnerin nicht zur Hand, ich werde ihn aber später nachreichen.
Wir hatten ein Rechteck von bestimmter Größe zu gestalten, um diesen Teil fügte die Partnerin dann einen Rand an, dann bekam man das Top zurück, musste es nochmals auf eine festgelegte Größe erweitern unbd den Quilt dann komplett fertig stellen.
Zuerst zeige ich euch den Quilt meiner ungarischen Partnerin. Ich erhielt den Mittelteil mit den beiden en-face stehenden Figuren. Mir gefiel die Arbeit meiner Pertnerin auf Anhieb sehr. Nach längerem Überlegen, entschied ich mich, die beiden Figuren links und rechts des Mittelteils zu wiederholen, oben und unten fügte ich dann einen Rand mit Streifen und Kreisen an. Es tut mir sehr leid, dass ich nicht weiß, wie der komplette Quiilt dann fertig aussah. Die Arbeiten wurden voriges Wochenende in Tatabanya gezeigt und da ich mich in einem anderen Teil dieser Erde befinde, konnte ich die Ausstellung leider nicht besuchen:


 Last but not least I will show my quilt for the Austrian- Hungarian Round Robin-challenge I recently took part in. I'm sorry but I do not have my Hungarian partner's name at hand but I will give it later on.
We had to sew a rectangle of a certain size, your partner had to add a border also of a determined size and then the top came back to the owner, who had to add another border and completely finish the quilt
 At first I will show you my Hungarian partner's work. I received from her the middle part with en-face worked figures. From the beginning I liked my partner's work and after careful deliberation I decided to repeat both figures right and left from the centre part. I finished the border with circles and stripes I'm very sorry for I do not know how the finished quilt looks like. The complete Round Robin was on display last weekend in Tatabanya, Hungary. I'm in a far away part of the world now and for that reason I could nor visit the show.



 



 Nun zu meinem Quilt. Ich war ja nicht gerade von der Muse geküsst, als ich als Mitteltei einen frei geschnittenen Log Cabin arbeitete. Doch meine ungarische Partnerin hat dann mit ihrem Rand einen tollen Beitrag geleistet:


 Now let's go to my quilt. I was not very inspired working a free cut Log Cabin as middle part. But my Hungarian partner made a great job adding this complex border:







So sah das Teil nun aus, als ich daran weiter arbeiten sollte. Ich fürchtete, dass der Quilt recht unruhig werden würde und so beschloß ich, das Top zu zerschneiden und auf einen neutralen Hintergrund, den ich mit einem metallischen Goldfaden in einem Gittermuster gequiltet hatte, zu applizieren. Unten rechts (im oberen Bild) sehr ihr einen gitterartigen Stoff, den meine Partnerin eingefügt hatte. Dieser Stoff brachte mich dann auf die Idee, mit goldenen Netzteilen den Quilt zu vereinheitlichen und ihn "Golden Cage" zu nennen:


That's the way my top looked like when I got it back from Hungaria. I worried that the quilt could be kind of broken at the end. So I decided to cut the whole piece and appliqué it on a very quiet background. Down in the left corner (upper photo) you can see a grid-like fabric added by my Hungarian partner. From this came the idea of quilting the background in a grid-like pattern using metallic golden thread. Then I tried to unit the top with a golden net and finally called the quilt "Golden Cage".


 


 Es freut mich, dass der Quilt meiner Tochter Michaela gefällt, sobald ich ihn zurück habe, wird er ihr Wohnzimmer schmücken!

 I'm glad my daughter Michaela likes the quilt and as soon as I get the quilt back it will decorate her
 sitting-room!

CQJP 2013 Block 3 / CQJP block#3

Heute wurde mein 3. Block für das CQJ-Projekt fertig. Nach Paris und Wien war diesmal New York an der Reihe, eine Stadt, deren multikulturelle Struktur mich immer wieder fasziniert hat:

Today I have finished my block#3 for the CQJ-project. After Paris and Vienna I dedicated this block to New York; the multicultural structure of New York has always attracted me:





 Kürzlich bin ich wieder auf meine Insel im Indischen Ozean gezogen und mit mir meine ur-ur-uralte Pfaff Nähmachine. Sie hat den Flug unbeschadet überstanden! Viele Funktionen, die ich an den neuen Maschinen sehr schätze, fehlen dieser Maschine. Aber glaubt mir, sie näht noch immer sehr gut.

 Previously I have moved again to my island in the Indian Ocean and with me came my very old Pfaff sewing machine. She has survived the fligth without any damages! This machine is not equipped with a lot of functions I appreciate on new sewing machines. But believe me this old machine is still working very well:




 Am Foto könnt ihr ein altes Nähprokekt erkennen, einen Scrapquilt - kein UFO, sondern wie Sharon B zu sagen pflegt ein WISP (work in slow progress). Bis jetzt habe ich nicht viel genäht, das Wetter ist allzu schön und wenn ich frei habe, sitze ich am liebsten im Garten und sticke. Außerdem gab es viel zu feiern: am 12. März den Unabhängigkeitstag, der gleichzeitig auch der Tag der Republik ist und kurz davor fanden die Festivitäten für Gott Shiva statt. Ich bin über die Erlaubnis, hier leben und arbeiten zu dürfen, sehr froh, hat diese multikulturelle und multilinguale Insel mein Leben und Denken sehr bereichert:

 On the picture you can see an old sewing project, a srapquilt, which is not an UFO but as Sharon B uses to say a WISP (work in slow progress). Until now I did not sew much for the weather is too beautiful and when I'm not working I love to stitch sitting in the garden. Besides there where a lot of celebrations as on 12th of March the Independence Day which is at the same time the Republic Day and a few days before the Festivals for God Shiva took place. I'm very glad to have the permission to live and work on this multicultural and multilingual island which has enriched my thoughts and life:




 

TAST 2013 Stiche 54, 56, 57 und 58 / TAST 2013 Stitches 54, 56, 57 and 58

Nun konnte ich endlich alle Stiche, die Sharon B in diesem Jahr gezeigt hat, lernen und in meine "Stichbibel" sticken. Laced herringbone stitch gefällt mir sehr gut, man kann sehr schöne Muster mit diesem Stich kreieren:

 Now I have learnt all the stitches suggested by Sharon in 2013 and I have stitched them in my "stitch bible". I like Laced herringbone stitch very much, this stitch creates beautiful patterns:








 Sailor stitch war wie alle anderen erwähnten Stiche völlig neu für mich. Dieser Stich ist vielfältig anwendbar. Ich finde, er eignet sich gut für Äste und Zweige, lässt sich aber auch wunderbar in bewegten Linien und Kreisen sticken:


 Sailor stitch was completely new for me like all the other stitches. This is a very versatile stitch and I find this stitch useful for twigs and brenches, moving lines and circles:







 Sailor edging stitch eignet sich wie schon der Name sagt besonders für Begrenzungen und Kanten. Auch Kurven lassen sich gut arbeiten. Muster ergeben sich wie auch beim Sailor stitch, wenn man Reihen Rücken an Rücken stickt oder Reihen gegenüber arbeitet. Ich habe versucht heraus zu finden, wie sich der Stich mit verschiedenen Fäden präsentiert:

 Sailor edging stitch suits for edges and borders as the name implies. It works very well with curves and like Sailor stitch rows stitched back to back or en face produce different looks. I tried to find out how the stitch looks with different threads:


 

 Der letzte Stich bevor wir eine Woche Pause machen heißt Woven detached chain stitch und eignet sich für Blätter. Ich habe einen Zweig mit dem Sailor stitch gestickt und dann Blätter aus Woven detached chain stitch gearbeitet:

 Before we have a catch up week the last stitch is called Woven detached chain stitch and this stitch works well for leaves. I stitched a twigg in Sailor stitch and added leaves in Woven detached chain stitch:



 



 Dank Sharon B wird es für mich immer interessanter zu sticken. Wenn ich nun einen Crazy Block besticke, kann ich aus einem weit größeren Repertoire schöpfen als noch vor einem Jahr. Ich versuche auch immer, neu erlernte Stiche zu verwenden wie hier, als ich einen Saum mit dem Buttonholed herringbone stitch bestickte:


 Thanks to Sharon B it becomes more and more interesting for me to stitch. When I embroider a seam in a crazy block my repertoire of stitches is bigger than one year ago. I always try to use stitches I have learnt in my crazy blocks like here where I stitched a seam with Buttonholed herringbone stitch:
